Noah and the Ark Why ? Who ? How ? What ?

Noah and the Ark Why was God grieved ?

Decline of spirituality Why was God grieved? Decline of spirituality “Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.” Gen. 6:1-2 NKJV

Why was God grieved? All were fleshly “And the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.“ Gen. 6:3 NKJV

Why was God grieved? The popularity of violence “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.” Gen. 6:11-12 NKJV

Why was God grieved? Only evil thoughts “Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Gen. 6:5

Noah and the Ark Who pleased God ?

Noah pleased God ? 1. Found favor in God’s eyes - 6:8-10 2. Righteous, blameless in his time, walked with God - 6:9 3. Did all God commanded him - 6:22 7:5,9,16 4. His faith led him to obey - Heb. 11:7

Noah and the Ark How was Noah to be Saved ?

How was Noah to be Saved ? Build an ark - The ark is to be: 450 feet long 75 feet wide and 45 feet high Take food Take family Animals

Noah and the Ark What really happened ?

Noah and his sons built the ark

The ark is finished and they are ready

All the birds are flying into the ark The animals are entering

Too Late !

The flood was upon the earth

Everything outside the ark was destroyed

Everyone in the ark was safe

Ark Landed in the Mountains of Ararat “And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.” Gen. 8:4

Ararat

They offered an animal sacrifice unto God of all the clean animals.

Two Scientific Philosophies about the earth and the flood Uniformitarianism Vs. Catastrophism

Uniformitarianism States that current geologic processes, occurring at the same rates observed today, in the same manner, account for all of earth's geological features. As present processes are thought to explain all past events, the Uniformitarianism slogan is "the present is the key to the past.” It ignores the possibility of past cataclysmic activity upon the surface of the earth.

Catastrophism It holds that geological features observable throughout the earth's crust are the result of past cataclysmic activity upon the earth's surface. In essence, the earth's surface is scarred by past catastrophes, the magnitude of which may not be observable today.

Has there been, in modern times, left flood-like conditions? a catastrophe that has left flood-like conditions?

Mt. St. Helens Before

Mt. St. Helens After

“Mount St. Helens provides a rare opportunity to study transient geologic processes which produced, within a few months, changes which geologists might otherwise assume required many thousands of years.”

“The volcano, therefore, challenges our way of thinking about how the earth works, how it changes, and the time scale we are accustomed to attaching to its formations.”

“These processes and their effects allow Mount St “These processes and their effects allow Mount St. Helens to serve as a miniature laboratory for catastrophism. Mount St. Helens helps us to imagine what the Biblical Flood, of Noah's day, may have been like.”

“by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.” 2 Pet 3:6 (NKJV)

Application "as the days of Noah"

"But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” Matthew 24:37 Normal Activities No warning of that day

There is no second chance Be ready - Be prepared There is no second chance

Noah was saved because he was righteous The Flood Noah was saved because he was righteous We must be obedient to God to be saved !

6. Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7. But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2 Pet. 3:6-7
