Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Location of the Faculty

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Located in the Heart of Rome

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi The library has been seen as the heart of the academic institution, an important place for every researcher, teacher and student on campus

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi From printed To electronic To global access There has been a sharp fall over the past five years in the number of researchers who visit their institutions library regularly.

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Murray has put this succinctly: the business and service model [of libraries] is evolving from acquiring, cataloguing and circulating physical collections to synthesising, specialising and mobilising Web-based services. Murray, R (2006) Library systems: synthesise, specialize, mobilize. Ariadne 48, July 2006

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Challenges

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Changing Services at Lund University HÅKAN CARLSSON LUND UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES, HEAD OFFICE More face-to-face library services >> Decentralized library organization Increased information services: Publication and project information >> Displaying and coupling information items such as funded applications, project descriptions and publications for different researchers Increased archiving services: Research Data >> Library relationship to University Archive, Long-term preservation Increased evaluation services: Bibliometrics >> Provide publication analysis in the research development at the university Increased publication services: Repository services, Journal hosting and Open Access advocacy

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Our mission Above all the library is a service Knowledge management is our main task We are the interface to channel info

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Medium to longterm Increase the role of the libary and an awareness of what it offers Build a good perception of how the library works Add value Make a difference

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Indications are that libraries websites or portals are well thought of by researchers across the board Must be a Department project Bottom up work needs to be sustained and supported Otherwise project dies and may need forcing from the top Must be seen to make a differece

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Need to communicate with all the stakeholders Create a community and be inclusive Who are they ? - Faculty, high priority stakeholder - Students – graudates, undergraduates - Non academic staff, technical and admin - Other interested parties

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Establish their requirements All with different needs to be addressed They shape the product Balance between what is common and what is different Structured and non ad hoc (non who shouts loudest) Go out to them – surveys, workshop, RSS, Blog….. and more. Most researchers lack any clear understanding of what the library is doing on their behalf.

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Our vision – the bigger picture Envision a situation where our webpage is a model for the Faculty/University Take on board the Challenges - custodian of collections, subject-specialist, teacher of information management skills - negotiate the purchase and facilitate the delivery and access to information - web learning,VLEs, VRCs - web publishing, manage irs of digital information - copyright issues

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi

Project management Design and maintenance Use statistics and site traffic Source content - inform and be informed Upkeep and update Keep stakeholders involved

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Joomla – parola Swahili per tutti insieme Che cosa è (web based, open source content management system) Perché usare Joomla e non WordPress, per esempio (più flessibile, rss, additional components and modules available, templates are great..) Come averlo e che cosa bisogna avere per installarlo ed estenderlo: Joomlacode, extensions.joomla.org, Front end management – WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Administrator functionality per aggiungere nuovi contenuti al sito - sections, categories, content items, polls and much more …

Ciber Seminario november m.j. crowley e g. manganozzi Thank you
