A front marks the boundary between two air masses of different density. It is really important to remember that air masses never mix- its just physics!

WEATHER SYSTEMS ASSOCITED WITH COLD FRONTS

WHAT IS A COLD FRONT?  ACCORDING TO THE LONGMAN GEOGRAPHY FOR CSEC: A COLD FRONT IA AN AREA WHERE TWO AIR MASSES OF DIFFERENT TEMPERATURE CONVERGE.  ACCORDING TO GEOGRAPHY AN INTERGRATED APPROACH: WHEN TWO AIR MASSES MEET, THEY DO NOT MIX READILY, DUE TO DIFFERENCES IN TEMPERATURE AND DENSITY.  FRONTS OCCUR WHEN TWO AIR MASSES WITH DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES AND DENSITIES MEET. COLD AIR UNDERCUTS THE WARM AIR. THE INTERACTION BETWEEN AIR MASSES RESULTS IN THE FORMATION OF DEPRESSIONS AND ANTICYCLONES.

THERE ARE VARIOUS TYPES OF FRONT  WARM FRONT IS FOUND WHERE WARM AIR IS ADVANCING AND BEING FORCED TO OVERRIDE COLD AIR.  COLD FRONT OCCURS WHEN ADVANCING COLD AIR UNDERCUTS A BODY OF WARM AIR.

TYPES OF WEATHER ASSOCIATED WITH FRONTS  COOLER TEMPERATURES DEGREES CELCIUS  MODERATE RAINFALL THAT USUALLY LAST FOR DAYS  MODERATE CLOUD COVER  WINDS FROM THE NORTH

WHAT IS AFFECTED BY FRONTS?  THE CARIBBEAN WEATHER SYSTEM IS AFFECTED BY COLD FRONTS WHICH FORM OVER THE NORTHERN CARIBBEAN DURING WINTER  JAMAICA, BAHAMAS, CUBA, HISPANIOLA ARE AFFECTED BY COLD FRONTS

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A FRONT?  COLD, DYR AIR MASSES MOVES SOUTH FROM THE NORTH AMERICA N CONTINENT  IT PUSHES UNDER THE WARM CARIBBEAN AIR  THE RISING WARM AIR COOLS AND CONDENSES ALONG A STEEP BOUNDARY  THIS RESULTS IN CUMULONIMBUS CLOUDS  HEAVY RAIN FALL OCCURS  THIS IS CALLED FRONTAL RAINFALL
