On Tuesday 30 th June 23 children from KS2 were chosen to form an athletics team that had to travel to Greenholm school and compete against Glenmead and Greenholm to decide which of the local schools would be crowned athletics champions. Each child took part in each of the five events, earning points for the team total. The events which the children took part in were- 50m Sprint Hurdles Javelin Discus Long jump The fastest boy and girl from each year group then took part in a boys relay and girls relay race.

Year 3 – Dante L, Kyreese, Jahdean, Abigail, Sienna M, Harsimran. Year 4 – Lewis C-I, Mekhi, Travis, Tiera, Niamh, Gracia. Year 5 – Jowell, Tobias, Tenayha, Annice, Darby. Year 6 – Thierry, Cairo, Daijahn, Ameile, Isabelle, Mirella.

(left) Ameile, Isabelle and Mirella compete to see who is the fastest, to decide who takes part in the relay. Overall, we were very succesful on the 50m Sprint with lots of our children winning their race, including ; Thierry, Ameile, Mirella, Dante, Sienna, Mekhi, Travis and Niamh.

(Above) Darby lands over the hurdle in first position. The hurdles were also a very succesful event for us. Gracia, Lewis, Mirella, Mehi, Tiera, Jowell, Annice, Darby, Thierry, Ameile all won their hurdle race.

Javelin, long jump and discus had a mixture of winners from the three schools. It wasn’t clear yet which team had won.

Although we didn’t know it at the time, it was the relays which decided the outcome of the entire competition. Boys team – Dante, Mekhi, Jowell, Thierry. FIRST PLACE. Girls team – Abigail, Niamh, Tenayha, Ameile. SECOND PLACE.

So the points were all tallied up and the result was – 3 rd place – Glenmead. 2 nd place – Greenholm. 1 st place ……….
