Map Skills 5 ‘Grid References’ To understand what a grid reference is and how they help us find places on a map. 1. Explain the term ‘Grid square’.
Grid References Maps can be very complicated, hence it may be very hard to find something or somewhere on it! To make it easier to find places, grid lines can be drawn on the map, these grid lines form grid squares. If each of these lines are numbered the exact position of a square can be given. When you place the numbers next to one another they form a four figure grid reference which give the position of a square.
