 Full Name: Carl Gustav Jung  Date of Birth: July 25, 1875  Date of Death: June 06, 1961  Place of Birth: Kesswil, Switzerland  Place of Death: Küsnacht, Switzerland

 Carl Jung was a prolific writer (he wrote his ideas in journals and published many books)  The Collected Works of C.G Jung  Jung spoke at meetings of the Psycho- Medical Society in London in 1913 and 1914

 Refers to the psychological classification of different types of individuals  Jung Characterized people into primary types of psychological functions  Communication style is influenced by personality type

 The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI) assessment is a psychometric questionnaire designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions.  First proposed ideas of personality types came from Jung’s book Psychological Types in 1921  2 million assessments annually

 Introvert(I) and Extrovert(E)  Introverted people tend to be centered on their internal world  Extroverts focus more on what is going on around them

 Sensing(S) and Intuition(I)  Sensing-dominated people tend to ask questions, and are focused on the present  Intuitive people focus on theories rather than details, and the future

 Thinking(T) and Feeling(F)  Thinkers are governed by logic and do not rely heavily on emotion-based words  Feelers will discuss their emotional experiences

 Judging(J) and Perceiving(P)  Judgers insist upon schedule and rigor and can appear serious and stoic. They are direct and to the point and will center on dates, details and next steps  Perceivers are much more flexible and adaptive but can be disorganized and ineffectual. They will not recall details of what was discussed and will tend to focus on what the other person is saying, rather than what they would like to say next

 What is effective communication for one personality type may appear unclear to another  Lack of communication between discordant personalities can lead to marital discord, tumultuous work relationships and broken friendships
