Do you know what domestic violence is and why it happens Do you know what domestic violence is and why it happens? Violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner is known a domestic violence. We are examining this topic and seeing how many people get abused every year, why victims don’t leave the abusive relationship and what affects it has on the children with abusive parents.

What is domestic violence? Domestic Violence is violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner (Google). Domestic violence is a commonly known subject that people think they know a lot about, but that’s not necessarily true. As most people think that domestic abuse is a thing that only happened to women but that’s not true. In fact most men are victims of domestic abuse to. According to The Guardian (2010), “About two in five of all victims of domestic violence are men, contradicting the widespread impression that it is almost always women who are left battered and bruised, a new report claims.”

Why stay? Why don’t people involved in an abusive relationship split up or separate? Most people say that their emotions are in the way of leaving. People who love the domestic spouse with most likely not leave depending on the amount of love and affection the one receiving the abuse has for the other. (Why Do People Stay) Some people get abused to the point where they think getting hit is normal, Or even fear can stop a person from leaving. For example if you are being abused most of the time “you” are afraid to go against that person. Knowing how much that person could do if “you” try to leave.

What affects dose it have on others? Another subject people should know more about is the affects domestic violence or abuse will have on children of said adult. “Studies show that 3-4 million children between the ages of 3-17 are at risk of exposure to domestic violence each year.”("Effects of Domestic Violence on Children") This is only one sad but true fact about domestic violence happening in a home where a child lives. Another statistic that is surprising but true is “The emotional responses of children who witness domestic violence may include fear, guilt, shame, sleep disturbances, sadness, depression, and anger. These are only two out of many more statistics but domestic violence raises the rate of emotional disturbed kids. The facts are all sad but all so true I encourage you to teach more about this form the site “Domestic violence roundtable”.

What are the Long-Term effects of Domestic Violence? What are the Long-Term effects of Domestic Violence? What impact can domestic violence have on someone? Women that have been in an abusive relationship in adulthood can have a heart disease and hypertension later in life. (Domestic Violence: Long Term) Boys who see their father abusing their mothers are more likely to be an abuser in their intimate relationship. Girls in their adulthood are more likely to tolerate abuse. It is proven that kids who see their mother getting abused are guilty because they can’t protect her. The rate of child abuse is 6-15 times higher in families where the mother is abused. Children get hurt when they see their parents being yelled at, pushed or, hit. They feel stress, fear, shame etc.

Take a stand. Now that I have informed you on ways domestic violence affects you, affects others, and can trick you to stay. I ask you what we said that informed you the most or thought you knew things. If you think about it will you take a stand and help change statistics join the cause and change the fate of most people. As I said knot only women are getting abused it’s kids and men this has gone on too long help someone you see in need reach out that hand they so desperately need. Going the cause to stop domestic violence if not it will only continue to grow and spread the hate in your neighborhood or home.
