6 Ways to Look for Job Openings 1. People you know- referrals 2. Potential Employers- applications on file 3. Newspapers 4. Employment Agencies 5. Temporary Agencies 6. Jobs Online

1. Think of ALL the people you know  THIS IS SO IMPORTANT- NETWORK Studies show that 40% of all employees found their first job through a REFERRAL! A referral is the recommendation of a person for a job given to an employer by someone the employer knows.  Referrals from successful employees at the company are especially powerful.

2. Potential Employees  Most businesses keep files of applications that they use when they have job openings.  Make sure that businesses that you would like to work for have your application on file.

3. Newspapers  Local newspapers can alert you to job openings. Check the help-wanted ads.  Newspapers are likely to have entry-level jobs posted in the want ads.  BE PROACTIVE.

4.Employment Agencies & 5. Temporary Agencies  Employment Agencies- government or private organizations that help people find jobs and employers find qualified workers.  Temporary Agency- is a private company that specializes in supplying short-term employees to businesses.  Benefit of Temp Agencies is it allows you to sample many types of jobs and often leads to full time employment.

6. Jobs Online  Online job search sites allow you to search for job openings in your field across the country and globally.  You can often post your resume on these sites.  There are relatively few entry-level positions on these commercial web-sites.  Companies often post their job openings on their own web sites!
