Introduction of Field Measurement and Field Survey

Wind Speed Wind Direction Air Temperature Relative Humidity ……. Climatic Data Urban Morphological Data Building Height Ground Coverage Ratio Plot Ratio Street Width ……. Data Analysis Develop Climatic Planning and Design PART 1: Field Survey PART 2: Field Measurement

Study Area: High-density Urban Area in Kowloon Peninsula Study Sites: 3 Sites in 300m*300m size are selected Number of Groups: 3 Number of Students in each groups: 3 Work to do: Field Survey (collect morphological data) and Field Measurement (collect climatic data) Equipment for Field Measurement: 1 set of TESTO 400, 1 set of HOBO U12 for each group Time for Field Survey: Unlimited Time for Field Measurement: 14:00 – 16:00, March 1, Sunday General Information

PART 1: Field Survey of Urban Morphological Data Students can add more morphological parameters into the table based on their study. Time of Survey: Unlimited

Location of Sites and Measurement Points : Open “Measurement_0301.kmz” Location of 3 Sites Location of 8 Measurement Points Each group needs to spend 10 mins measure the air temperature, RH, wind speed and velocity using TESTO 400 and HOBO U12, and then spend 5 mins move to the next point. Total measurement time is around 2 hours.

Equipment : TESTO 400 TESTO 400 Parameters: Air Temperature, Relative Humidity, Wind Speed Advantages: Sensitive

TESTO 400 Wind Velocity/TA/RH Sensor Data Logger Equipment : TESTO 400

Equipment : HOBO U12 Parameters: Air Temperature, Relative Humidity Advantages: Stable, easy to carry Sensor for Air Temperature, Relative Humidity

TESTO 400 Operation 1. TESTO 400 is waiting to start 2. TESTO 400 is logging data. Testo 400 will be programmed in advance to log data. Students need to check whether it is waiting to start before measurement and whether it is logging data during measurement.

TESTO 400 Operation Click “OK” to come into the menu/to select function Click “ESC” to come back Click “I/O” to turn on/off TESTO

TESTO 400 Operation Choose “Program” Choose “Start Time”_”Date/Time” Choose “End Time”_”Date/Time” “Save”

HOBO U12 Red light flashes at 1 second interval when it is logging data.

HOBO U12 Students need to fill in the green columns during measurement

Summary Students need to : During measurement, 1. Arrive each point on time 2. Record the time when you start measurement at each point 3. Record the primary wind direction at each point 4. Check the equipment is working correctly 5. Take photo of the urban morphology at each measurement point After measurement, 1. return the equipment on time before 6PM, March 1 to Room 505, AIT to Venessa. 2. Send an with your measurement table together with the photos of your measurement points to before 12 PM, March

Notice Carry the equipment very very carefully!!! Open the sensor of TESTO 400 during measurement.

Arrangement Each group have 1 set of TESTO 400 and 1 set of HOBO U12. All 3 groups need to pick up and get familiar with the equipment at 12:40 March 1 Sunday, at Room 505, AIT. We will come to University Station at 13:00, and arrive sites around 13: minutes left for each group to get prepared to measurement (14:00) at the sites. If you have any problems during measurement, contact Venessa. TEL of Venessa:
