Membership changes Chair: Victor Zamfir (2013), Douglas MacGregor ( ) Secretary: Dennis Bonatsos (2013), Johan Nyberg (2014) Observer from NuPECC: Gyuri Wolf Retiring from Board: Tomasz Matulewicz (Dec 2013), Dennis Bonatsos (Jun 2014) New co-opted members will be appointed at next meeting Representation on EPS Energy Group: Lazslo Csernai Representatives on Editorial Board of Nuclear Physics News International: Douglas MacGregor and Klaus Peters Observer at NuPECC meetings: Douglas MacGregor (2013), Klaus Peters (2014) Representatives on PANS committee: Dimiter Balabanski, Johan Nyberg

Division Conferences – A facility-based nuclear physics Divisional conference on the Science and Technology for FAIR will be held October 2014 in Worms, Germany. Klaus Peters will lead the local organisation of this conference. – The 7 th Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics conference will be held May 2015 in York, UK. – 3 rd European Nuclear Physics Conference, will be held 31 August - 4 September 2015 in Groningen, The Netherlands. Nasser Kalantar will lead the organisation of this conference. Emphasis will be given in maximizing the participation of students and postdocs. The conference will be subtitled: “3rd European Nuclear Physics Conference – celebrating the year of light”. The Ph.D. Prize for the best Ph.D. thesis in Europe in will be awarded at that time.

Other Conferences and Workshops – The Division supports and endorses a number of other conferences related to nuclear physics. – The 3 rd European Energy Conference will take place in Budapest, Hungary, on October The Nuclear Physics Division will be represented by Laszlo Csernai who has joined the board of the EPS Energy Group. The Energy Group board will meet during the conference. – The Division board endorsed the Nuclei in the Cosmos Conference, to be held at ATOMKI, Debrecen, 7-11 July This will be an EPS sponsored conference.

Prizes The Division organises three prestigious prizes: – The 2014 Lise Meitner Prize for outstanding contributions to Nuclear Science, will be advertised shortly. – The 2013 IBA Prize was awarded during the International Nuclear Physics Conference, held in Florence on 2-7 June 2013 and a report has been written for the conference proceedings. The board will explore writing reports for other media. – Entries for our second European Nuclear Physics Dissertation Prize, covering the years 2012 to 2014 are already open. The award will be made at the 3 rd European Nuclear Physics Conference in Groningen in September 2015.

Outreach/PANS ATOMKI, Debrecen, selected as a historic physics location by EPS. There will be a ceremony to mark the event on 25 th October D. Balabanski and J. Nyberg are the Division representatives on PANS (joint committee with NuPECC). The Division endorsed an initiative to set up a series of Facebook pages to promote Nuclear Physics to a public audience. Pages in several European languages will be set up and help/volunteers will be requested from National Societies to maintain the account, with any contentions issues being referred to members of the PANS board for resolution. The Division PANS members will also develop ideas for celebrating the connection between nuclear physics and the international year of light. These ideas will be presented to the PANS board for consideration at a future date. If not taken up by PANS, the board will consider if it can do something on its own.

Topical Paper on the connection between Applied Physics and Cultural Heritage Work is underway on the production of a topical paper on ``Applications of nuclear physics for the study, preservation and conservation of cultural heritage’’. A non-technical paper presenting the current state of the use of applied physics in the study, characterization and preservation of cultural heritage, aimed at a general scientific audience. It will emphasise the interconnection between physics and cultural heritage and will cover more than just nuclear physics techniques. Lead by Anna Mackova, Cortina Gil and Eli Piasetski. The Division has invited external experts to be co-authors of the paper and is currently seeking input from other EPS divisions and groups. Eli Piasetski will attend an IAEA workshop on 9-11 October 2013 in Sumi, Ukraine, to discuss preservation of cultural heritage.
