Bar Graphs, Histograms, Line Graphs Arizona State Standard – Solve problems by selecting, constructing, interpreting, and calculating with displays of data. S2C1PO1

Objective  I will be able to use a bar graph to represent data.  I will be able to read and construct histograms.  I will be able to use a line graph to represent data.

Bar Graphs  A bar graph uses vertical or horizontal bars to display numerical information.  Bar graphs can be used to compare amounts.  Choose an appropriate scale (with regular intervals).  The bars should have the same width.

3 Types of Bar Graphs Simple Bar Graph

3 Types of Bar Graphs Double Bar Graph

3 Types of Bar Graphs Stacked Bar Graph

Histograms – compare continuous data in intervals  A histogram is a bar graph in which the bars represent equally spaced intervals of numbers (you must decide on your equal intervals).  There are no spaces between the bars on the histogram.  Make a frequency distribution & use the totals to create the histogram

Let’s Practice  Page 210  # 1 - 4

HOMEWORK  Page 210  #

Line Graphs  Line graphs show trends over intervals of time.  Line graphs can have one line or several lines.

3 Types of Line Graphs: Simple Line Graph

Double Line Graph
