Basic needs of a developing Civilization. There are 5 basic needs of a Civilization: Government Religion Writing Science and Arts Social Classes Without these there is no Civilization

Introduction of Indus Valley Civilization The Indus Valley Civilization is our ancestral civilizations. Started at about 2300 BC. Developed in the Indus River Valley. Just beneath the Himalayan Mountains in modern Pakistan and Northeast India. Example of most developed Cities: Mohenjo- Daro and Harappa.

Government of IVC The IVC had a superior and very efficient government. The Government did jobs such as managing the overall well being of the city, building structures in the city, city planning etc.

Govt- building of structures. The government built various structures for the use of residents of the city. E.g include The Great Bath, The Granaries, temples etc. The Great Bath was a large swimming pool like structure used for religious bathing, religious rites, spiritual cleansing etc. The Granaries stored grain for the cities, these were the most good looking buildings. The temples of course were for praying and worshipping.

Govt-City Planning City planning was another thing done by the govt. The cities of the IVC were planned out beautifully by the Govt. There was something about the city planning of the IVC that was absolutely unique and modern. There was a drainage system and TOILETS!!! Every rich house or palace had a toilet. There were also public toilets. This shows that the IVC had a very modern city planning. I end this segment on govt saying that govt is the most important of 5 basic needs of a developing Civilization.

Religion Most IVC cities followed the religion of hinduism. They prayed to Lord Shiva. The people of the IVC believed in Animism, the worship of Animals. Religion was conducted by priests.

Social Classes Different Social Classes: 1) Gods and Goddesses (if any) 2) Priests and Scholars(Brahmins) 3) The Rajas and Their Noblemen(Kshatriyas) 4) Merchants, Farmers, Land owners, and Craftsmen 5) Servants, Workers, Wage earners
