Growing Prayer Part Three

Review Knowing, Growing, Understanding, Living, Giving Structured plans are best Especially the plans that God gives us. What prayers include: Praise Confession

Parts of the prayer Praise: Giving God glory and honor. Getting God’s attention from a human eye Confession: Acknowledging our own sins, and asking God to forgive them. We are not perfect, and we beg His mercy With sin, we cannot be in fellowship with God.

Petition 1 Samuel 1:17 (NKJV) Then Eli answered and said, "Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him." A petition is a request. We can do this individually or collectively.

Petition Psalms 66:19 (NKJV) But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. Psalms 66:20 (NKJV) Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His mercy from me! Matthew 7:7-8 (NKJV) "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. {8} "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Petition 1 Timothy 2:8 (NKJV) I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; James 1:6 (NKJV) But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. John 14:13 (NKJV) "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Petition Some religions may teach that our every desire will be met when we pray in Jesus' name. Because God said that it will be given, or that you will find what you seek, many interpret this to mean that our every wish will come true. But notice the following verses to see the qualifiers to having request or petitions come to pass.

Petition 1 John 3:22 (NKJV) And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. It is because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV) Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. {15} And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. It is because we ask according to His will.

What Should We Pray For? Forgiveness: 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. To acquire wisdom James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him”.

What should we pray for? We pray for others and their deliverance from oppression and other problems. We pray for the Divine intervention to help the sick and afflicted. James 5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. {15} And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven”. We pray for all men. We pray for our government and leadership of the world’s nations. 1 Timothy 2:1-3 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, {2} for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. {3} For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior”,

What should we pray for? We pray for ourselves. We pray for others. We pray for wisdom. We pray for our spiritual leaders. We pray for our brothers and sisters in the Lord. We pray for governments and world leaders. We pray for our enemies. Matthew 5:44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you”,

Thanksgiving We need to acknowledge that God has blessed us so very well. Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; We should give thanks for all the things that God has done for us. We should thank Him for our lives, families, our livelihood, and our world. We should be thankful for beauty and happiness. Most of all, we should be thankful for Jesus Christ and His church. We should thank God for His help.

Thanksgiving Psalms 100 (NKJV) Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! {2} Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. {3} Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. {4} Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. {5} For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.

Thanksgiving Revelation 4:11 (NKJV) "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created." Revelation 5:9 (NKJV) And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, Yes, we have much to be thankful for.

Conclusion Petitions take many forms and there are many motives behind what we ask. We must acknowledge that God has taken care of us, and we thank Him for what He has done. God provided salvation. Invitation
