¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! Expectations What are the expectations for this class? I have a ton of information to give you today! It should sound familiar.  Welcome letter  Class policies  Behavior  Teamwork  Grading  Backpacks

Your Learning Team  You may have noticed that you are sitting in a team. This will be your learning team for the next few weeks.  What is a learning team???  Your first task as a learning team is to decide on a team name. It’s not like this!

So, what is our class going to be like?  Remember, this is a high school level class.  We have a lot to do, but we don’t have as much time as THS to do it.  Related Arts Schedule  M/W (A Day)  T/Th (B Day)  Friday: Report to M/W (A Day) class. Practice Speaking  1. Say the Spanish alphabet for 2 other people.  2. Practice spelling your name in Spanish.  P1: ¿Cómo se llama? (What is your name?)  P2: Me llamo (My name is)____________.  P1: ¿Cómo se escribe? (How do you spell/write it?)  P2: (spell your name) ________________.  Complete these activities in your learning team first. Then, you may work with others in the class.

Cognates  Now that you’re really good at the Spanish alphabet and pronunciation, let’s use it to learn some cognates.  Cognates are....words that are the same (or really similar) in more than one language.  For us, they will be Spanish words that look or sound kind of like words in English.  Good Cognates: Spanish words that sound like English words AND mean the same thing.  Bad Cognates: Spanish words that sound like English words, but DO NOT mean the same thing.  Activity: Use your pronunciation skills to say the words and try to figure out what they mean. This is a team competition!

Acrostic  Have you ever made an acrostic poem? Today, you are going to make one for your name en español. Here's how we're going to do it...  Write your name vertically on a sheet of paper.  You can use any word that has one of the letters in your name. I’ll show you!  Use the Spanish dictionary available online at or any online translatorSelect words that you think are representative of yourself and see if you can fit them in.. (Please write the translation at the bottom of the page.)  Decorate!  This will be due by M/T.
