Introduction This was a very interesting project to do because of the country I picked: Austria. As you will soon find out Austria is a very interesting country. I really enjoyed putting this project together and I hope you enjoy it.

Austrian Tourism In 2007, Austria ranked 9th worldwide in international tourism receipts, with 18.9 billion US$. In international tourist arrivals, Austria ranked 12th with 20.8 million tourists. The three most visited landmarks in Austria are Schönbrunn Palace (2,590,000 visitors per year), Tiergarten Schönbrunn (2,453,987 visitors) and Mariazell Basilica (1,500,000 visitors).

Austrian Sport Due to the mountainous terrain, alpine skiing is a prominent sport in Austria. Similar sports such as snowboarding or ski jumping are also widely popular and Austrian athletes such as Annemarie Moser- Pröll, Hermann Maier and Toni Sailer are widely regarded as some of the greatest alpine skiers of all time.

Austrian Sport Austria has been the number 1 ski jumping nation for several years. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 it took all 5 gold medals. The Austrian Grand Prix was a Formula 1 race held in 1963, 1964, from 1970 to 1987 and from 1997 to Several Austrian drivers have competed successfully in Formula One.

Austrian Sport Austria was among the most successful football playing nations on the European continent placing 4th at the 1934 FIFA World Cup, 3rd at the 1954 FIFA World Cup and 7th at the 1978 FIFA World Cup. However, recently Austrian football has been much less internationally successful in this discipline. It also co-hosted the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship with Switzerland.

The Alps Introduction The Alps are Europe's major range of mountains, spanning from the Mediterranean coast of France via Switzerland, Nothern Italy and Austria to Slovenia. As such, a considerable area of Austria is part of this mountain range, accordingly hiking, skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing rate highly among Austrian's favourite pastimes.

The Alps The clean air, spectacular sights, lakes and glaciers and well-tended trails and hikes contribute to the Alps attract numerous tourists and visitors. Local animals such as chamois, marmots and ibexes are well adapted to the alpine habitat.

The Alps Eisriesenwelten are the largest accessible ice caves in the world. Its frozen waterfalls and elaborate ice formations can be admired on guided tours taking you for 75 minutes into a fascinating world. The enormous caves are located in the proximity of Werfen, an easy distance from Salzburg.

Austrian Flora Austria is mainly a forested area, and 44% of its land is covered by forests. Orchids, edelweiss and poppies are quite common here. Flowers like edelweiss, gentians, alpine carnations, arnicas, alpine roses, heathers decorate Austrian land with different colours. The Edelweiss Flower >

Austrian Fauna Central European animals such as deer, stags, rabbits, pheasants, foxes, badgers, martens and partridges can easily be seen in Austria. Alpine animals like Chamois, groundhogs, eagles and mountain jackdaws are dominant in Austrian regions. Heavily wooded southern and central mountainous regions are famous for variety of small bears.

Conclusion I hoped you enjoyed my project because I thoroughly enjoyed making it. I found out loads of interesting facts on Austria that I wouldn’t have known before I did this project and thanks to Mr. Mc Cormack for showing us how to use PowerPoint. THE END
