GOAL SETTING

What are goals? Think about tomorrow. Is there anything you are looking forward to or anything specific you would like to do tomorrow? What about next week, or next month, or in 3 years? The things you think about are your goals.

Why do we set goals? Without goals life just “happens” to you rather than you decide what you want from life. They help you think about possibilities They give you a direction to work towards They give you a clear picture of where you want to go They help you push yourself just that little bit more They can give you motivation and focus They help you do all the things you want to do in life

What type of goals should we set? S specific exactly what do you want to achieve? M measurable will you know when you have reached your goal? A achievable can you accomplish your goals? R realistic is there a good chance you will reach your goal? T time when would you like to reach your goal?

How do we manage our goal setting? Short term goals – today, tomorrow or within next few weeks Mid term goals – achieve next few months Long term goals – in the next year or later in life.

Four personal goals Academic- choose two learning goals Physical - well being Social – relationships with others
