Common Induction Standards for Personal Assistants David Knowles Managing Director, CQ3

Background CQ3 have been commissioned by Staffordshire County Council/CareMatch to provide Common Induction Standards training for Personal Assistants in Staffordshire Underpins the authority’s commitment to improving standards and outcomes for Personal Assistants and Direct Payments recipients CQ3 are pleased to be working in partnership with CareMatch The partnership provides a truly unique solution to Personal Assistants and their employers by recognising differences in practice compared to traditional care home/domiciliary care models

About CQ3 CQ3 Training work with care homes, domiciliary care providers, community care services, personal assistants, local authorities and the NHS to provide training solutions We have provided training courses and funded Health and Social Care Diplomas to Personal Assistants Our philosophy is about making a real difference to people’s lives Our success is founded on our values and principles, and the research that we put into our products and services For this project, we consulted with Skills for Care about how the Common Induction Standards could be adapted

What are the Common Induction Standards? A set of 8 Standards developed by Skills for Care Designed to be met within a 12 week period for people entering the health and social care sector Designed to demonstrate high quality care provision Mandatory requirement for care homes and domiciliary care services Not a mandatory requirement for Personal Assistants but recommended Links with the Health and Social Care Diploma

Why recommended for Personal Assistants? The Care Quality Commission (CQC) recommend that an effective induction for care workers should be carried out to improve outcomes for the service user/employer Provides underpinning knowledge in health and social care Can be used as a platform for additional training and qualifications Enables the Personal Assistant to become a professional in health and social care Is a recognised Standard in the sector that employers and other professionals understand Improves the quality of life for the service user/employer
