Print Media BY: AILA AMER

What is it….  The industry associated with the printing and distribution of news through newspapers and magazines. Simply just print

History  Started with printing to duplicate of images, it originated in Asia and Europe  Woodblock printing was the first technique to start with, it started in china with writing on textiles.  Many methods were used for print  Movable type was the next process a system using typography and movable pieces

Print Press  The printing revolution started with Johann Gutenberg in the 15th century and became the base for the expanded role of the dissemination of news introducing the means that provide print media mass circulation.  The inventors created different types of printing methods, which allowed a mass production of printing.

Changes Print to digital  As print versions of newspaper went to digital they lost revenue, they lost a lot of profit in two ways : one was the beginning newspaper did not charge for people reading online; the other was revenue from advertising. They try to address the first problem with a paywall fee but, the advertising profit went down 25-35% from printed newspaper. In 2010 online advertising was 13% of newspaper revenue and had increased 3%  People are using digital print more because its free and convenient its on all devices (iPhone, androids, iPad etc.

Disadvantages  If you want to grab the worlds attention you need to post to social media because we are living 21 century print will be no longer our future.  Placing an advertisement in print media requires a lot of planning and time. In this case, you are faced with flexibility problem, particularly when you work in tight deadlines.

Advantages Showy magazines are always popular among customers and are often read by them for a particular period of time in a month. The monthly magazines are the best way to bring attention to any advertisements.  Print media is an easy medium to spread consciousness or promote to any particular geographical area. Like, a local newspaper is the best way to spread news about any local event of the place.  Print media allows you to choose your own space for advertisement, and, you can manage your budget and costs for when you plan for the advertisement.  There are some people who are against all digital and still interested in print.

Future of print  We are so technologically already advance we get our media online different sites. That print will struggle at this age because of how far we are with our digital age, many do believe its actaully better for the planet. Media goes where people go and the people are online, social networks that’s how companies and digital make so much profit.  In order to survive, print media has to find a way to reach new readers, find new means of distribution, and reduce the cost of production.  This print to digital movement demands for new businesses models for the print industry, but yet developing such a model is easier said than done. Lower revenues are inescapable, no matter what. Even though all newspapers and magazines notice a change in revenues, some are managing to keep up. But then again for how long? Is there a future left for print media in a world where everything is so digitally advance.

Business  There are different types of print that is not all dead.  Print as a process has a bright future because our industrialized society continues to "mark on substrates. “  Print as a communication medium is decreasing Magazines and other periodicals have weakened, because even younger readers often prefer the tactile experience and all the other characteristics of print.  Print as business you never know what can happen business model has four simple components: sell it, make it, ship it, and bill for it.  There is still hope for print !
