The Launch of the New School Council

What is a School Councillor? A school councillor is an important member of the school. They represent other pupils in their class. They have been chosen to be a councillor through an election. They have a duty to make the school a fun and happy place.

What is a School Council? It’s a way to get pupils more involved in the way our school is run. School councillors need to express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent. It’s an opportunity for you to make change happen!!

What qualities do you need to be a good councillor? A good listener A good team worker Have good ideas Helpful Reliable Caring Good role model

Who could be a school councillor? Any boy or girl from Year1 to Year 6 One boy and one girl from each class YOU!!

THE POEM We are now going to have a poem read by Olivia Kelly and Jamie Hepburn.

The Election Process Step 1: A pupil wants to be a councillor another pupil puts there name forward (Nomination) Step 2: Nominated pupils then prepare a speech to give to their class. Step 3:An election is called and voting papers are prepared Step 4:Pupils vote in secret for the councillors. Step5:The new council is voted in and meets for the first time.
