When we hear the words Animal Cruelty, we think of serious harm that someone has caused to an animal knowingly, deliberately and inhumanly. We immediately picture an animal bleeding somewhere and beasts standing around it, after having shot it. We often see advertisements that showcase the blatant reality a bit too harshly. It is of course necessary to do so, but in the meantime we must not forget that small incidences or incidences of a smaller intensity can also be considered as examples of animal cruelty.

 Women in abusive relationships won’t leave the abuser because they are afraid of it happening to the animal.  13% Of animal abuse involves domestic violence.  70% Of animal abusers also have other criminal records.  Scientists estimate that 100 species of animals goes extinct everyday.  Every year 10,000 bull dogs die in bullfighting.  80% of birds die in smuggling shipments.  Studies show that fish who are caught and then returned to the water suffer such severe physiological stress that they often die of shock. - Emily Sutherlin –Nowpublic January 31 st 2012

Kill Shelters: Puts animals down that they believe are unadoptable, almost immediately. This means that older, shy, and the unattractive animals are killed. It’s done before the person who dropped them off is back at their car. No Kill: Makes a commitment to every animal it takes in that it will house it for how ever long it takes, no matter how much it costs, until the animal finds a home even if a home is never found. - Bosler Humane Society

Kills: They receive government funding and tax dollars. It pays for the euthanization. No Kill: Receives no money, the only money no kill gets is from public donations, and is used to get the animals spayed or neutered. - Bosler Humane Society

 On PETA’s website it has examples of animal abuse. Not only house animals but wildlife and zoos as well.  They do help the animals and look into the problems, almost immediately. For example I called on the pet store in the mall and an hour later they called me saying they were going the next day to investigate.

“Birds are smuggled into the U.S. more frequently than any other type of animal. Many birds are force fed and have their beaks taped shut before being crammed into anything from a spare tire to carry on luggage” Outdoor cats are often shot, poisoned, stolen by angry neighbors. They are also beaten, set on fire in ritual sacrifices, and stolen by dog fighters to be used as “Bait”. PETA: outdoor cats and birds

They oppose zoos because the cages and cramped enclosures at zoos deprive the animals of the opportunity to satisfy most basic needs. Zoos breed more animals for the babies, this causes the zoo to make more money. These animals are restricted from natural behaviors such as flying, swimming, running, hunting, climbing, and even selecting their own partner. Zoos believe taking these animals in helps them from extinction, the salvation of them is protecting the habitats they live in, not creating animal prisons. -PETA: Zoos

 Catch and release fishing is a cruelty disguised as a “sport”. -PETA: Fishing  Fish often swallow hooks and anglers may try to retrieve the hook by shoving their fingers or pliers down the fishes throat, ripping out not just the hook but some of the fish's throat and guts as well.  Not just fish affected but other animals as well such as birds and turtles. They get entangled in the fishing line or swallow the fishing hooks.

What we discussed:  Aden’s Story  Statistics of Animal Abuse  Kill vs. No shelter’s and how the government funds the Kill shelters  PETA: - Small animals - Zoo animals - Fishing

“Life is life- whether in a cat, or dog or man. There is no difference there between a cat or a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man’s own advantage”. - Sri Aurobindo
