Orlando Science Center Presentation to the Orange County Board of Commissioners, August 2007 To build a world-class institution dedicated to creating high quality math and science experiences for children. GOAL:

Recent Financial Performance THEN NOW

Impact is large Total Attendance An estimated 200,000 Orange County residents, nearly 1 in 5, visited the Science Center last year.

A strong educational partner The Science Center serves nearly twice the U.S. average of K-12 students each year. Over 30,000 OCPS students came this year—more than 1 of every 6 students in public schools in the County.

Reaching out to new audiences 12,000 free field trips for “school lunch” students “Otronicon” and “Discover Daytona 500” FCAT “Science Bowl” outreach program for schools At-risk youth workforce skill development

Plan the work, work the plan Children's Museum Blockbuster Exhibits Renovate Exhibit Space Build endowment Public-private partnership A Strategic Business Plan was developed with the guidance of White Oak Associates, the leading planning firm for Science Centers.

Quality and Uniqueness “Best Business Practices Award 2006” from National professional society (ASTC) Voted “Best Museum 2007”, Orlando Magazine Named as an "Innoventor" by Florida Trend The Science Center was covered in more than 141 national news markets in 2007

Maintaining the momentum: a reasonable investment The public-private partnership, with government support, is essential to continued success. OSC’s support from government is less than the average in Florida, and the U.S.

Together we are making a difference. The Orlando Science Center: Investing in our children; Investing in our future. Thanks to the Board of County Commissioners for your continued support.
