FORESTRY EQUIPMENT ID

TREE STICK

Dibble is used in planting seedlings. Type of instrument used to measure tree height indirectly – ABNEY LEVEL

DIAMETER TAPE

Most accurate way to measure the diameter of a standing tree – DIAMETER TAPE. A worker handling pulpwood is most likely to use a HOOKEROON.

INCREMENT BORER

A forester can determine the age of a tree without felling it by using an INCREMENT BORER.

BARK GAUGE

TREE CALIPER

Pulaski Forester Axe

A Pulaski is used in firefighting for GRUBBING AND CHOPPING.

STEREOSCOPE

A stereoscope is used for READGIN AERIAL MAPS. A forester would use a soil test kit to measure SOIL PH.

GPS RECEIVER

SOIL SAMPLER(S)

WHEELER CALIPER

WHEELER CALIPER used prisms. KERF refers to WIDTH OF A CUT MADE BY A SAW When underbucking the chainsaw will PUSH TOWARDS THE OPERATOR.

WEDGE PRISM

Used to measure the BASAL AREEA of trees in a stand.

RELASKOP

A Jacob Staff is used with a RELASKOP to improve accuracy. Tree height is measured by CLINOMETER

STAFF COMPASS

HAND COMPASS

TREE PLANTING HOE

TREE RULE

PLANIMETER

SURVEY INSTRUMENT

HIP CHAIN

PLASTIC FLAGGING

TREE MARKING GUN

LOGGER’S TAPE

CLINOMETER

Clinometer is used to find the height of a tree and slope. Tree Injectors are used to dispense herbicides into a tree. Also used to KILL TREES. Instrument used in triangulation is ALIDADE

HYPO-HATCHET

CANTHOOK

Cant Hooks are used for ROLLING AND POSITIONING LOGS.

CHAINSAW

SAFETY HARD HAT

CHAINSAW CHAPS

Hypsometer – used to estimate merchantable height.
