Pathways to Learning Website

A Learner applies for a Music PAL Access Card at the library they regularly use (e.g. their Public Library) The Access Card enables the learner to visit and make use of facilities in other libraries that are part of the Music PAL scheme (subject to local rules) Facilities made available to Music PAL Access Card holders may vary, but reference access to print materials will be allowed as a minimum How does Music PAL work?

The Music PAL Access Card The Application form for the Music PAL Access Card is available for download from

Check for valid Music PAL Access Card, and ID (if required) Issue external reader’s ticket (according to local practice) Make visitor aware of Library regulations and facilities, and any specific conditions for the use of special collections If visitor needs particular guidance on use of music materials, catalogues, etc, refer to appropriate staff (usually the local Music PAL Co-ordinator) Record visit on the Music PAL data collection form Receiving a Music PAL Referral

Assess whether enquiry is best resolved through a referral Check that the library member is in good standing Ask member to complete the Music PAL application form, drawing attention to the ‘Guidelines for Music PAL Visitors’ Enter the member’s details on the Music PAL Access Card Issue the member with their Music PAL Access Card (valid for one year) Making a Music PAL Referral (1)

Identify which libraries can provide the information or materials required. The Music PAL website and/or the RASCAL database may help with this. Check the access conditions of the libraries to be visited Make user aware of any special requirements - e.g. phone in advance; type of ID required Give user a feedback form Record referral on Music PAL data collection form Making a Music PAL Referral (2)

Database shows:  Which libraries hold resources on specific subjects  Where these libraries are  Access terms for visiting these libraries RASCAL
