3 Passive Voice  I bought a car yesterday.  Who did the action?  I  performer  Who/what was affected in the action?  A car  receiver

4 Passive Voice  My brother broke the window.  Who broke the window?  What was broken?  People speak English all over the world.  Who speak English?  What is spoken by the people?

5 Passive Voice  The one does the action  performer  The one affected in the action  receiver  When the performer is the object of the sentence  passive voice ( 被動語氣 )

6 Passive Voice - Pattern 1.Interchange the position of the subject and object (add ‘by’ before the performer and change the pronoun) 2.Add ‘verb to be’ before the verb 3.Change the verb into past participle I write a book. I write a book. A book is written by me.

7 Passive Voice  In some cases, we may not have the performer in the passive sentence. (performer) (receiver) People speak English all over the world. (receiver) (receiver)  English is spoken all over the world. Bye bye!

8 Passive Voice  Present tense  Add is / am / are She beats the drum.  The drum is beaten by her. Remember to change the pronoun!!!

9 Passive Voice  Past tense  Add was / were William spent some time doing the project.  Some time was spent by William doing the project. The fascinating scenery attracted a lot of tourists.  A lot of tourists were attracted by the fascinating scenery.

10 Passive Voice  Future tense  Will be + past participle Jenny will clean the room. The room will be cleaned by Jenny.

11 Passive Voice  Present perfect tense  Have / has + been + p.p. Mary has fed the dogs already. The dogs have been fed by Mary already.

12 Passive Voice  Past perfect tense  Had + been + p.p. Joe had visited HK before he went to Taiwan. HK had been visited by Joe before he went to Taiwan.

13 Passive Voice  Present continuous tense  Is/am/are + being + p.p. She is washing the clothes now. The clothes are being washed by her.

14 Passive Voice  Past continuous tense  Was / were + being + p.p. Dennis was reading a novel when William came to his house. A novel was being read by Dennis when William came to his house.
