{ Foundations Will Jesus come again?

What happens when a person dies?  Ecclesiastes 12:7 : “ The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. ”  The soul and body separate

 Luke 16:19-26 "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' "But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.' What happens when a person dies?

 Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."  Revelation 14:13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them."

 The soul and body separate.  The soul goes either to heaven or to hell. What happens when a person dies?

 John 5:28-29 Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. What happens when a person dies?

 The soul and body separate.  The soul goes either to heaven or to hell.  The body remains in the grave until the resurrection. What happens when a person dies?

Will Jesus come again?  Acts 1:11 “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same you have seen him go into heaven.”  Matthew 24:42-44 Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

 Yes! But God hasn’t told anybody when. Will Jesus come again?

 Matthew 24:4-12 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold Will Jesus come again?

 Yes! But God hasn’t told anybody when.  As the world draws closer to the end, it will become more and more ungodly  Some “ signs of the times ” :  In society: wars and rumors of wars  In nature: earthquake, famines  In the church: false Christs, persecution, spread of the Gospel

How will Jesus come again?  Matthew 25:31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.  In glory, with all his angels

How will Jesus come again?  Acts 1:11 “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."  Revelation 1:7 Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.

1. In glory, with all his angels 2. Visibly, so that every eye will see him How will Jesus come again?

What will happen when Jesus comes again?  John 5:28-29 Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out— those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. 1. All the dead (believers and unbelievers) will be raised from the grave

What will happen when Jesus comes again?  Acts 17:31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead." 1. All the dead (believers and unbelievers) will be raised from the grave 2. All mankind will be judged

 Matthew 25:31-46 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' What will Jesus ’ verdict be?

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." What will Jesus ’ verdict be?

 John 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. What will Jesus ’ verdict be?

1. He will say (v.34) “ Come you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world, ” to all who trusted in him as evidenced by their new lives. 2. He will say (v.41) “ Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil, ” to all who rejected him and gave evidence of this in their lives. What will Jesus ’ verdict be?

What will happen then?  2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. 1. The world as we know it will be destroyed by fire.

What will happen then?  2 Peter 3:13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness 1. The world as we know it will be destroyed by fire. 2. God will give believers a perfect new heaven and new earth

What will happen then?  Philippians 3:21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. 1. The world as we know it will be destroyed by fire. 2. God will give believers a perfect new heaven and new earth 3. We and all believers will receive perfect, glorified bodies similar to Christ ’ s after his resurrection

 Luke 21:27-28 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer?

1. This is the day of final redemption when we will be free from the presence and effects of sin Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer?

 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer?

1. This is the day of final redemption when we will be free from the presence and effects of sin 2. with the Lord forever Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer?

Psalm 16:9-11Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer?

1. This is the day of final redemption when we will be free from the presence and effects of sin 2. with the Lord forever 3. eternally happy in his presence Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer?

Isaiah 43:21 the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise. Why will Judgment Day be a joyous day for a believer?

 1 John 3:1-3 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.  Am I ready?  In whom do I trust?  For whom do I live?
