Adding and Managing Your Classroom Printer Managing your printer refers to controlling who prints what documents, when they can print and deleting documents queued for printing. All teachers should have the ability to add and manage the network printer(s) located in your classroom. A network printer is a printer with a network cable plugged into the wall Students no longer have the ability to add printers to workstations, but they and can manage documents they have sent to print. Additionally, if you have other classroom printers installed on your laptop, you can manage them also. The following will help you understand and be able to perform these tasks.

Viewing Installed Printers a)Click a)Click Start b)Select b)Select Settings c)Select c)Select Printers and Faxes (if using Windows XP) Awindow similar to the one below should appear. It is a list of all printers installed on your computer

A stand-alone printer (directly connected to your computer or laptop). A network printer (connected to the school’s network). Network printers have a horizontal bar directly under it.

a.Double click on the Add Printer icon – found on the left b.Click Next on the Welcome Screen c.Select “Network Printer” Adding / Installing a Network Printer

a)Click Next b)For Windows Select “Type the printer name, or click Next to browse for a printer” option c)For Windows XP – Select “Connect to this printer, or click Next to browse for a printer” option

d) Click Next e) Double click on the CBA_PQ1 icon in the list that appears

A list will expand under the CBA_PQ1, which will list all the school’s network printers.

f)Scroll through the list till you find the network printer you want to install (They are in alphabetical order with either the department, classroom or prep room as the beginning part of the printer name) g)Select the printer to highlight it h)Click Next i)Select YES or NO as to whether you want this printer to be your default printer for all your print jobs. j)Click Next k)Click Finish You have installed a new printer along with the associated software files for the printer.

Repeat steps a - d found under Viewing Installed Printers above to view all the installed printers a. Double click on the printer you want to manage. In the box that appears you can view any documents presently printing or queued for printing. You use this window to control print jobs. Managing your Classroom Printer

b) Click menu item “Printers”

Item “Pause Printing will put the printer on pause. Note: No documents will print if there is a “check” mark beside “Pause Printing”. Selecting “Pause Printing” once will pause the printer Selecting it again will remove the pause. Item “Cancel All Documents” will cancel the document printing and any documents queued for printing. Click once on a document queued to print (document will become highlighted) c) Click menu item “Documents” or right click on a document and the same box will appear with the same options.

Note the item “Owner”, this is the person who submitted the print job

These options will perform the task identical to their names. Pause = pause the document printing / and pause the printer Resume = resume printing the current document being printer Restart = restart printing the document from the beginning Cancel = cancel printing the document printing and any others that you have highlighted Propertied = set when the document is allowed to print and the priority
