Good Source Bad Source ok it’s source not sauce!

For the following, decide… good source or bad source?

The admissions tutor at a university tells you over the phone ‘Our entry requirements are given a range of 240 – 300 points. We would look at your application, including your reasons for doing this course and your predicted grades and decide what conditional offer to give you. It could be anything between 240 and 300 points.’

A friend of your cousin who knows somebody who might works at Manchester Uni says… ‘You’ll definitely get a job if you do a degree at Manchester University.’

Printed information in the 2013 MMU University Prospectus BSC (Hons) Psychology needs 300 points, grades BBB excluding general studies

From the graduate employment website What are the key issues in the health and social care sector? The biggest issue that the health and social care sector faces is meeting an increased demand for services when budgets are being tightened. Budget restrictions could mean that less health and social care jobs are created. Although this isn't necessarily bad news, as graduates will be needed to replace those professionals that retire or leave. There are signs that recent graduates are finding it difficult to secure work immediately after graduation in some health and social care jobs. In 2010/11 fewer graduates found work six months after graduation as social workers, physiotherapists, medical radiographers and occupational therapists than graduates from 2009/10 (HECSU, What Do Graduates Do? 2012) Written by Editor, Graduate Prospects Date: November 2012

Information from the office for national statistics

From and-deductions/nmw.htm#2  Current national minimum wage rates  There are currently three aged based national minimum wage rates and an apprentice rate, which are usually updated in October each year. The rates that apply from 1 October 2012 are as follows:  for workers aged 21 years or more: £6.19 per hour  for workers aged 18 to 20 inclusive: £4.98 per hour  for workers aged under 18 (but above compulsory school age): £3.68 per hour  for apprentices aged under 19: £2.65 per hour  for apprentices aged 19 and over, but in the first year of their apprenticeship: £2.65 per hour  Apprentices aged 19 or over who have completed one year of their apprenticeship are entitled to receive the national minimum wage rate applicable to their age.

‘Arrowhead’ on the student room law forum  Q What subjects do they want for law?  A Any A-Levels are fine for Law. Just make sure you get the grades! That's what's most important.

Person who answers the university help line number when you ring with an enquiry. The prospectus says that you need any science subject at A Level so I think they will probably count health and social care as science because it has health in it.

Post by Myles Bigland on Law Careers.Net  … the CILEx route is a real alternative to the LPC and training contract, giving you the chance to: experience training largely equivalent to the LPC; work at paralegal, legal assistant or basic administrative level in a law firm or in house; and become qualified and gain relevant experience without a formal training contract…

For any source?  Up to date?  Is there a more knowledgeable or accurate source?  Fact or opinion?  If fact, have the facts been collected in a reliable way?  Does the source have a vested interest in some way eg employers or universities promoting themselves? Be objective and critical when looking at any source of information. See the links on the careers area of ozone and the careers blog if you are stuck for sources of information.
