How this PowerPoint Works Some of the slides in this presentation are hidden. (The slide number has a box and slash through it.) A hidden slide will not be shown in ‘slide show’ mode. It is visible and can be edited etc. in ‘normal’ mode. You can change modes on the view tab or with the icons in the lower right corner. Some of the slides have notes. These notes contain more detailed information that will be helpful in understanding the background of an artist or talking points for a slide. If you would like view or print this presentation with the notes, use the ‘notes page’ on the view tab or on the print menu.

Children’s Day May 5th is a national holiday that celebrates children. Carp are a type of fish that is very popular and many families will have a pool in their yard to keep them. Carp banners are purchase by the family and friends on the first festival after their birth and are flown every year afterward on the day. They do not fly free like a kite on a string, but more like a wind sock.

Today’s Project Make a paper fish kite Cut out fish shape Paint the scales Open mouth with pipe cleaner so we can hang it up

Step 1 – Fish shape Draw a fish shape outline on your large sheet of paper It should fill the whole space Put a second paper underneath and staple around the edge INSIDE the line Cut out the shape

Step 2 – Scales Use the paint to make a pattern of scales You can use warm colors: red, orange, yellow, pink OR Cool colors: blue purple, green, gray You can make scalloped scales or stripes

Step 3 – Pipe cleaner Loop the pipe cleaner into a circle and twist the ends so that it is secure Check the size on the mouth of your fish Take a second pipe cleaner and make a handle for the circle Put the circle in the mouth of the fish The handle should be sticking out of the mouth Fold over the paper and staple it down
