UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS TESTS BMAT UKCAT LNAT STEP OXBRIDGE

Why are there extra tests? Some universities use extra tests to help them choose from large numbers of well qualified A level candidates. This can make a difference to them being offered an interview or a place on the course. They are most commonly used for admission to Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Law courses and Oxbridge

BMAT The BioMedical Admissions Test is a 2 hour test and comprises of:  Aptitude and skills  Scientific knowledge and applications  Writing task  Test takes place in school 4 Nov 2015  Cost : £44 plus admin fee dependent on the number of candidates.

BMAT Currently required by :  Oxford  Cambridge  Imperial College, London  University College, London  Royal Veterinary College  Brighton & Sussex Medical School  University of Leeds School of Medicine  University of Leeds School of Dentistry

UKCAT UK Clinical Aptitude Test comprises of:  Verbal Reasoning  Quantitative Reasoning  Abstract Reasoning  Decision Analysis  Situation Judgment

UKCAT Test is arranged by the student and taken during the summer holidays or early September. Cost : £65Late entry : £80 Required by most medical and dental schools. Must be completed BEFORE the UCAS form is sent.

LNAT Law National Admissions Test comprises of:  Multiple choice questions  Written essay Currently required by: Birmingham Bristol Durham Glasgow Kings College London Nottingham Oxford SOAS UCL This is also arranged by the student and taken in early September. Cost : £50

STEP Admissions test for oversubscribed Maths courses Required by Cambridge and Warwick Recommended for Bath, Bristol, Imperial, Oxford, Loughborough, King’s Taken in school with summer exams

Help with test fees Students who receive Bursary Fund and have a low family income may be eligible for help with the test fees. Check on the test websites for details

Oxford For most subjects, students will be required to submit essays and may be required to do a written test at interview or at school prior to interview. E.g. A history candidate would send in one essay and sit the History Aptitude Test Offers will include A* requirement

Cambridge For most arts and social science courses, students will be asked to submit sample essays. Students may be asked to take the TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment Test) which is designed to test critical thinking and problem solving skills. Offers will include A* requirement
