Rock ‘n Ride 2010 The Adventure of a Lifetime!

Rock ‘n Ride 8 day trip outside of camp Mountain Biking on beautiful CO trails Rock Climbing and Bouldering The first Rock ‘n Ride Session Ever!

And your 2010 Rock ‘n Ride Leaders are….

Lewis Osterman 8th Summer at JCC Ranch Camp Originally from Denver, CO Currently a student at CU Boulder Lead Mountain Biking at camp for the past 2 summers Rides a full suspension giant

Garrett Michaels 7th Summer at JCC Ranch Camp Graduated from CSU in 2009 in Political Science. Has done TASC, Teen Village backpacking, Mountain Biking, 8 th Grade at Ranch Camp Originally from Denver, CO Just got his EMT Certification! Rides a trek Mountain Bike

“What can we (parents and campers) do between now and Rock ‘n Ride?” Physically Prepare Just like anything that is demanding on our bodies, it is best to work up the strength and stamina bit by bit rather than just throwing our bodies into difficult and rigorous work. While Rock ‘n Ride will be one of the most fun experiences of your lives, it will demand quite a bit from your bodies and at times push you to what will seem like your physical limits. Begin now by training your bodies to endure the hard work we will be doing during the trip. Walk, run, dance, climb, bike, row… basically move as much as you can between now and the start of the session. The more you prepare your body, the more effortless the trip will seem for you.

“Where will R ‘n R be going this year?” -The biking portion of the R ‘n R trip this year will most likely be some awesome trails in Crested Butte CO. We are still waiting to see if it will be optimal weather conditions in that area, and if not we will be going to Gunnison, CO. -The climbing portion of the R ‘n R trip will be in Buena Vista CO

We are expecting every level of strength, mountain biking and rock climbing experience and stamina on this year’s Rock ‘n Ride. We will have a little bit of time at camp to get familiar with the bikes and feel comfortable before we leave on the trip. Most campers feel nervous before going on a trip no matter their background. Each R ‘n R camper will look out for each other and under the direction and supervision of the very experienced Rock ‘n Ride staff, we will ensure that every camper is able to grow and expand their limits but also succeed and have fun. Our goal is to give every R ‘n R camper an amazing Mountain Biking and Climbing experience… no matter their prior knowledge or experience. **Also feel free to contact Kolby, Gilad or either of the Rock ‘n Ride leaders with any specific concerns.** “What if I’m nervous about the physical challenges on Rock ‘n Ride??”

We will make available on the Ranch Camp website a short list of required items that you need specific to the R ‘n Ride trip. If you have any questions about the types of equipment recommended or need some advice from us about where to buy equipment/what brands we prefer… don’t hesitate to ask us! We will be happy to help you as best as we can to get the right gear for the trip. We would encourage you to purchase and start using your gear as soon and as much as possible! The more familiar you get with your sleeping bag, and the more comfortable you feel in your padded shorts when you bike, etc…. The less trouble you will have with these things when we are on the actual trip. “What should we bring to camp specific to Rock ‘n Ride?”

Ready to Rock ‘n Ride? Imagine yourself cruising on some of the most exhilarating trails in the world with your best friends in front and behind you. Imagine yourself using your strength and will power to make it up a climb with the beautiful scenery of 14 thousand foot mountains behind you. Imagine yourself camping and laughing with awesome kids and counselors who are rockin’ and ridin’ with you every day. Imagine learning about yourself with every challenge and milestone on the trip and also encouraging your peers to meet their challenges…

Let the adventure begin….. See you soon….
