Week 1: 1)Who is the Holy Spirit? 2)What does the Holy Spirit do? Today: What does it mean to… …be baptized by the Holy Spirit? …be filled with the Holy Spirit? …follow (be led by) the Holy Spirit? …walk by the Holy Spirit?

1)When a person becomes a Christian they receive the Holy Spirit and are baptized by the Holy Spirit. 2)God tells Christians to be filled with the Spirit, walk by the Spirit and be led by the Spirit. 3)Some Christians use the phrases, “I was baptized by the Holy Spirit,” “I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit,” or “I was filled with the Holy Spirit,” to refer to an emotional experience with God, often accompanied by speaking in tongues.

1)When a person becomes a Christian they receive the Holy Spirit and are baptized by the Holy Spirit. Receive: Having believed, you were marked in Christ with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance…. (Ephesians 1:13-14) Baptized: For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jews or Greeks slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. (1 Corinthians 12:13)

2)God commands Christians to be filled with the Spirit, walk by the Spirit and be led by the Spirit. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to depravity. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18) So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. (Galatians 5:16) But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. (Galatians 5:18)

Question: How do we get filled with the Spirit? Where do we get the discipline to walk by and follow the Spirit? 1)We must WANT the Holy Spirit to fill us. 2)We must make DAILY EFFORT to -spend time with God -renew our desire to follow Him -deal with our sin
