The Shoulder Wide range of motion Common to have instability problems Very mobile joint

Common Shoulder Injuries The more mobile a joint is, the less stable it is. Rotator cuff impingement Subluxations Dislocations

Warning Signs Of Shoulder Injuries Is your shoulder stiff? Can you rotate your arm in all the normal positions? Does it feel like your shoulder could pop out of the socket? Do you lack the strength in your shoulder to carry out your daily activities?

Weight Training Modifications Key Points Weight training has many benefits, but comes with a high risk of injury. Puts shoulder joint in positions that could injure shoulder or cause anterior shoulder instability. To avoid shoulder complications or anterior shoulder instability the article provides modifications to exercises that are prescribed to clients. Avoid aggravating the shoulder capsule by removing the “High- Five” position out of these common exercises: Military press Behind the neck pull down Squat

Significance Modifications to common weight training exercises help professionals improve clients work outs by reducing the risk for shoulder complications. Understanding clients with anterior shoulder instability are at risk while weight training. Look for signs and symptoms of shoulder pain. Remove and modify certain exercises for clients.

Importance As a professional… Making a client preform an exercise in weight training that uses the High Five position, could cause shoulder complications. Make adjustments for each client. Be cautious and do postural assessments and Range Of Motion assessments before prescribing a client an exercise program.
