Chapter 7 Section 3 The Qin Dynasty

The Qin Dynasty 221-206 BC

The Qin Emperor’s Strong Government The Warring States period marked a time in China when several states battled each other for power. One state, the Qin (Chin), built a strong army that defeated the armies of the rivaling states. Eventually, the Qin dynasty united the country under one government. Shi Huangdi

Shi Huangdi Takes The Throne China Under The Qin Dynasty Questions/Answers Shi Huangdi Takes The Throne China Under The Qin Dynasty

Check Your Facts!!!! Shi Huangdi created a strong government with a strict set of laws because he was a follower of Legalism. The Qin rule had a great affect on China because it unified the country under one ruler. Trade became much easier because under the Qin rule, China used the same coins and writing system. Shi Huangdi was an intolerant leader who did not respect other people’s beliefs. He ordered the burning of all writings that did not agree with Legalism. The Great Wall of China was built as a barrier to protect China from invasion from the fierce nomad warriors from the north. After Shi Huangdi died in 210BC the government began to fall apart

Terra-Cotta Army Of Shi Huangdi In 1974 archaeologists found the tomb of Emperor Shi Huangdi near Xi’an and made an amazing discovery. Buried close to the emperor was an army of more than 6,000 life-size terra-cotta soldiers. Each soldier was different with its own facial features, hairstyle, and unique expression. Terra-Cotta Army Of Shi Huangdi

This is the archaeological dig site. Much more needs to be explored. This is how they were painted when they were first made.

What can you infer about Shi Huangdi as an emperor, from the findings at this archaeological site?
