Earth’s Spheres A lesson in the earth’s major sections. By Samantha Clayton 6/6/11

Lesson Objectives Today you will learn…  the 3 major spheres of the earth. Expectations…  Read through the PowerPoint  Follow the link to learn more  Fill out the learning guide  Go online to answer a discussion question and submit completed copy of learning guide

What are the general sections of Earth?  Atmosphere  Hydrosphere  Geosphere  a combination of two: lithosphere and biosphere

What’s up with the Atmosphere?  This layer is the air around you.  You will find clouds, rain, and storms in this section.  The atmosphere is also made up of different layers.  We live in the layer called the troposphere.

Can you guess what lives in the hydrosphere?  The hydrosphere is the watery parts of your planet.  The water cycle is included in this sphere.  Fish and some mammals live in the oceans and rivers that make up this section of Earth.  The water temperature around the planet changes which causes our temperature on land to change.

Geosphere cut in half  The geosphere is a term for both the lithosphere and the biosphere.  The lithosphere is the rock or crust of the earth.  The biosphere is the stuff that you find on earth like people, plants, and animals.  This layer also contains a cycle you will learn more about called the rock cycle. resource link

How do we know all of this?  People have developed all types of ways to measure Earth and its happening.  Technology has come along way in helping us investigate the earth.  Later you will conduct a webquest and search for the different technologies that scientists use.

Go online and learn more  Click the following link to learn more facts about the earth and it’s spheres!  sese/earthsysflr/spheres.html sese/earthsysflr/spheres.html
