A VERB shows action or state of being. Definition A VERB shows action or state of being. running laughing thinking dream dancing

There are three basic kinds of verbs: Action Linking Helping

Action Verbs An ACTION VERB is a word that expresses action. It may be made up of more than one word. The director shouts at the members of the cast. The lights are flashing above the stage. The audience arrived in time for the performance. Several singers have memorized the lyrics of a song.

Action Verbs ACTION VERBS can express physical actions, such as shout and arrive. They can also express mental activities, such as memorize and forget. ACTION VERBS Physical shout, flash, arrive, talk, applaud, act, sing, dance Mental remember, forget, think, memorize, read, dream, appreciate

Identify the action verbs in each sentence. Practice Identify the action verbs in each sentence. 1. Heather and Lisa heard a crashing sound. 2. They ran to the kitchen window. 3. The girls turned on the outdoor lights. 4. They looked out into the night. 5. The listened for more noise.

Helping Verb + Main Verb = Verb Phrase HELPING VERBS A HELPING VERB helps the main verb express action or make a statement. Helping Verb + Main Verb = Verb Phrase Tonya is acting in another play today. She has learned the lines for both plays.

Verb tenses VERB tenses let us know when the action happens. present tense I ace tests sometimes, but not often enough. past tense I aced the test yesterday. future tense I know I will ace the test tomorrow.
