Thesis The 1 foot high kick is important to because it would signal the village if the hunting parties if they were successful that day by doing the 1 foot high kick. It is a test of athleticism and skill. The ball is suspended 54 inches for women and 72 inches for men. When there are three competitors it raised in one each time. The winner is the one who can kick the ball at the highest height.

Main Argument/Information Slide The history of the 1 foot high kick is used to keep strength during the winter and keep fit for whaling and seal hunting. The participants jump with one foot and attempt to kick the ball with the one foot to get maximum points. The target is suspended from a minimum of 6 feet for guys and 5 feet for girls. The 1 foot high kick is used for Arctic Survival and is a tradition among the people of Alaska. The game originated from hunting parties in the North. If the hunt was successful the hunter would signal by doing the one foot high kick, once he was insight of the village.

The one foot high kick is where You jump with both feet and kick with one foot then land on the kicking foot. If you don’t land on the kicking foot then your turn is nullify. A target made from seal is hung from an estimated height depending on the height of the competitor. The athlete has three minutes to charge at the ball hung and attempt to kick it with one of his/her feet. The female competitors have the seal fur ball hung from a certain amount of 54 inches. The male must have the ball hung from a minimum of 72 inches.\ There are three attempts per person. The ball is raised 4 more inches per every succeeded kick. Facts About The 1 Foot High Kick
