Someone keyed the mike and said ‘everyone stay in your seats’” 8:38:30am ET AAL11 descending out of 28,500 feet and UAL175 at 31,000 feet flight paths cross 8:40am ET AAL11 tracks the eastern shore of Hudson River AAL11 a Boeing 767, Boston to Los Angeles UAL175 a Boeing 767, Boston to Los Angeles 8:15am ET Coordination between two Boston center controllers recognizing that AAL11 appears to be turning right and has not acknowledged additional radio calls 8:26am ET AAL11 in an unauthorized turn southbound - military radar shows an altitude of 31,000 feet 8:24:57am ET Second unknown communication... “…nobody move, everything will be OK, if you try to make any moves you”ll endanger yourself and the airplane, just stay quiet…” 8:42am ET UAL93 Departs Newark Newark Sparta, NJ Navigational Aid 8:41am ET Military launches fighter aircraft in response to FAA notification of hijack 8:20am ET AAL77 Departs Dulles Airport UAL93 a Boeing 757, Newark to San Francisco AAL11 TR 20 degrees 1st Unknown 2nd Unknown 3rd Unknown UAL175 ZNY check-on

World Trade Center Within seconds of AAL11 crashing into WTC, 8:46:48am ET, transponder code on UAL175 changes to 3020 then to 3321, making the air traffic control computers no longer able to track UAL175’s radar target Newark Airport 8:52am ET Controllers instruct UAL175 to recycle transponder “…squawk 1470…” No response is received from UAL175. Flight is observed beginning a climb and an unauthorized left turn. Sparta, NJ Navigational Aid 8:53am ET Controllers coordinate internally, asking other controllers if they see UAL175, or know the identity of radar target on transponder code All responses are negative. 8:55am ET Controllers are busy trying to keep other aircraft from colliding with the aircraft believed to be UAL175. 8:55am ET UAL93 progress 8:55am ET UAL175 progress 8:59am ET UAL175 completes a left turn, heads directly towards the World Trade Center 9:03am ET UAL93 progress Dulles Airport 9:03am ET UAL175 crashes into World Trade Center 8:37am ET AAL77 progress UAL175 a Boeing 767, Boston to Los Angeles UAL93 a Boeing 757, Newark to San Francisco AAL77 a Boeing 757, Dulles to Los Angeles

Dulles Airport Newark Airport 8:55am ET UAL93 progress 9:09am ET UAL93 progress 9:24-9:30am ET Dulles Airport ASR-9 radar, displays a fast-moving primary radar return Several controllers working radar positions at Dulles observed this same primary target tracking eastbound. 8:55am ET AAL77 begins and unauthorized turn towards the south at 35,000 feet Cleveland, OH 8:51am ET AAL77 acknowledges routing clearance to Falmouth, KY navigational aid. This was the last radio communication with the flight. 8:40am ET AAL77 establishes radio contact with Indianapolis Center 8:57am ET Controller attempts to contact AAL77 a minimum of five times without receiving any acknowledgement from the pilot. FAA personnel also try to contact AAL77 through American Airlines company radios. 9:28:19am ET A radio transmission of unintelligible sounds of possible screaming or a struggle from an unknown origin is heard. 9:09am ET Indianapolis Center personnel notify Great Lakes Regional Operations Center of a possible aircraft accident with AAL77 due to simultaneous loss of radio communications and radar identification. 8:56am ET Both primary and secondary radar contact is lost with AAL77 8:57-9:09am ET Indianapolis Center personnel make constant attempts to both communicate with AAL77 and find any radar return that could be that of the flight. 8:56-9:14am ET The black potion of this flight track is the assumed track of AAL77. Radar coverage of primary targets is nearly non-existent. 9:10-9:24am ET Primary radar returns subsequently extracted from several different en route radar sites, indicate a track believed to be that of AAL77. 8:37am ET AAL77 progress 9:28:54am ET A second radio transmission of mostly unintelligible sounds of possible screaming or a struggle and a statement “…get out of here, get out of here…” from an unknown origin is heard. At approximately 9:33am ET An operations supervisor at IAD advises the White House Office of the USSS of an unknown, fast-moving aircraft heading in the direction of the White House. The same information is provided to the controllers at DCA at the same time. The operations supervisor is also providing continuous updates on a critical event teleconference at FAA Headquarters. 9:35am ET UAL93 previously level at 35,000 feet begins an unauthorized climb. 9:36am ET Controllers at DCA issue traffic advisories on the unknown aircraft to a military C-130 that departed Andrews AFB. When the C-130 (GOFER06) pilot reported the unidentified aircraft in sight, the instruction was given to follow the aircraft. 9:35-9:37am ET Radar data shows the fast-moving primary target making a right, 360-degree turn, 3 miles southwest of the Pentagon. Pentagon 9:38am ET AAL77 crashes into the western side of the Pentagon Pittsburgh 9:38:47am ET UAL93 altitude indicates 40,700 feet 9:31:57am ET A third radio transmission of unknown origin is heard. More unintelligible words and what sounds like “…we have a bomb on board…” 9:39:12am ET Another unknown radio transmission is heard, mostly unintelligible, states words that may sound like “…captain…bomb on board…our demands…remain quiet…” 9:40:28am ET Last transponder radar return at an altitude of 39,700 feet. 9:44am ET Cleveland Center controller notifies Pittsburgh Airport controller of the unanticipated turn, the loss of secondary radar returns, and the lack of radio communication with UAL93. The projected flight path of UAL93 would result in the flight passing in close proximity, if not directly overhead PIT. 9:51am ET UAL93 passes 2 miles south of PIT at an unknown altitude and traveling at a ground speed of 350 knots. 9:57:19am ET Last observed radar return, unknown altitude, ground speed 400 knots. 9:45am ET PIT controller starts a manual radar track on the unidentified primary radar target. 10:04am ET UAL93 crashes into the woods in Somerset, PA UAL93 a Boeing 757, Newark to San Francisco AAL77 a Boeing 757, Dulles to Los Angeles 9:27:30am ET Cleveland Center provides a traffic advisory to UAL93.
