Facts About The Seal The shield is held by two animals representing Michigan, the elk and the moose. “Tuebor” means “I will defend.” Lewis Cass was Michigan’s 2 nd governor. Lewis also selected the seal as it is.

More Facts About The Seal The eagle holds 13 olives on a branch to represent the first 13 states. The eagle also holds 3 arrows to represent that Michigan is ready to defend its principles. “E Pluribus Unum” means “From Many One.”
