Purpose of Workshop The Joint Statement of 2009 APEC Ministers: 1. Elimination of trade barriers of the four basic clean energy technologies (such as Wind, Solar, Clean coal and Efficient Lighting); and 2. Strengthen the International standardization activities, especially in the standards related to energy and environmental issues, to build up the harmonization with international standards. In order to further echo the above statement with regard to high-efficiency lighting, Chinese Taipei held the “Workshop on LED Lighting Technology with Energy Saving Issues” on 22 October 2012 in Taipei.

Key Objectives of Workshop to share Chinese Taipei’s experience of the promotion for LED lighting by public works and demonstration projects with APEC Member Economies. to share and learn from the cases how they promote the LED lighting application of APEC Member Economies in order to refine the strategy of LED lighting industry in APEC.

Workshop Arrangement Time: October 22, 2012 Venue: Convention Hall, Howard Civil Service International House Budget: Self-funded by BOE, MOEA of Chinese Taipei Supervior: Bureau of Energy, MOEA of Chinese Taipei Organizer: Industrial Technology Research Institute A total of 175 people from APEC Economies attended

Conclusion There is a paramount need to setup a standard of energy efficiency and an LED testing/measurement standard in APEC region. These might result in cost reduction of LED products and market expansion. All APEC economic entities can benefit from them. By the way, we should try our best to exclude trade barriers. Technologically, all APEC economies can share their information and experiences in LED products. Also, it is advised enhance cooperation and exchange of information between laboratories to prevent development overlapping. We should keep upgrading the performance of LED products to enhance market penetration.
