Strathkinness Primary One Parent Induction Workshop UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Article: 29 Schools should help children develop their skills and personality fully, teach them about their own and other peoples rights. Article: 5 Parents have responsibilities to guide you through your child hood years and help you learn. Article: 18 Both parents have the main responsibility to bring you up and should always consider what ’ s best for you.

Our Vision In our school its our aim to care for our children as we encourage them to learn within a context of understanding of the rights that they have and the responsibilities that go along with them. Our vision statement is "To Prepare Today's Children for the World of Tomorrow”, and so we are committed to providing the most stimulating education that we can for all individuals according to their need. We seek innovative ways to widen the children's learning experience and look for opportunities to include parents and the wider school community. At Strathkinness Primary School our Golden Rule is: “We believe every child has the right to be happy”.

The aims of the school were set in consultation with the pupils, parents and staff during workshops.

Life in Primary 1 at Strathkinness Primary School The Primary 1 class will have 14 pupils. (There will be 9 Primary 2 pupils). The first day! The first two weeks A day in the life of Primary 1 Parents as Partners Useful Information

The First Day! Wednesday 19 th August 2015 Start of day: pm Children to enter through Cloakroom doors Parents welcome to stay to help find their peg and for “soft start”. Classroom assistant available to support in the class. Children to be collected at cloakroom doors. Please inform the office if you are running late.

The first two weeks at Strathkinness Primary School Week 1 School day: pm Week 2 School day: Pupils can stay for lunch and be collected at 12.45pm or can be collected without lunch at 12.00pm Playtime – am - supervised by Support Staff.

A day in the life of Primary 1 Journey to school: Pupils arrive by bus, car and walk to the school. Contact number for the bus queries is Ext Milk / Fruit: Milk is issued every day after playtime. Fruit is issued in the afternoon at least three times a week. Milk slips are normally issued at the end of each term and can be handed into the office. (However today you can order for next term). Playtime and snack: Healthy snack encouraged. There is a tuck shop available run by the pupils. Snacks cost a maximum of 50p. Lunchtime pm: Lunch slips are normally ed out to you and should be handed into the office on a Monday. (Today you will receive the menu for next term). What your child needs to bring!: PE Kit, water bottle, pencil, rubber and a pencil case. All items of clothing named Positive behaviour: We encourage all pupils to take responsibility for their actions and think of how they can help one another.

Parents as Partners Opportunities for parents to share in their child’s learning: Reporting: Wider achievements are weekly. Learning Logs monthly. Shared events: Open afternoons, trips, school events e.g. Talent Show Parent Helpers: If you are able to support the school with your time and skills please make the school aware. Parent Council: Meets once a term. School bag mail: Please check your son / daughters bag! Soft starts once a month. Parents Evenings twice a year. Text message alerts/ Office communicates by or by text. Please ensure you have submitted your most up to date contact details.

Communicating with School General Enquiries: School Office Message for children / class teacher: Write a letter or contact the School office. Class based questions: Speak to the Class Teacher at the end of day or arrange an appointment. Sensitive queries: Meet with the Head teacher or class teacher. Useful information School Bus: transport department authorise passes to those who live more than a mile away. Bus passes issued over the Summer holidays. Bus travel is not supervised. If the school doesn’t receive contact then parents will be phoned. Lateness: children who are late to arrive should enter via the school office. Appointments: children to be collected form school office. Please notify class teachers
