Public Speaking 101 Ke JIN

What is Public Speaking?  Public speaking in its simplest form is speaking in public. (from Speechmastery)  Public speaking (sometimes termed oratory) is the process or act of performing a presentation (a speech) focused around an individual directly speaking to a live audience in a structured, deliberate manner in order to inform, influence, or entertain them. Public speaking is commonly understood as the formal, face-to- face talking of a single person to a group of listeners. It is closely allied to "presenting", although the latter is more often associated with commercial activity. Most of the time, public speaking is to persuade the audience. (from Wikipedia)

Why Public Speaking?  The benefits of public speaking are best appreciated when understanding that speech is a gift. Taking the gift of human speech to the level of public speaking promotes it into an art. To master the art of public speaking requires mastery of other arts as well.  And here are some specific benefits of public speaking from Speechmastery…

How to become good at public speaking? While there are various ways to help you become good at public speaking, I would suggest you to do the following things…  Read more, learn more, and manage your knowledge well.  Be confident and motivational.  Practice your body language including facial expressions.  Choose the right tone and pay attention to pauses and intonation.  Make sure you’d feel comfortable about making eye contact.  And practice, practice, practice!!!
