Teacher Information Subject Mathematics Grade level-1 st Summary: The purpose of this power point is to allow the student to add and subtract objects in a given word problem. Objective Given a word problem, the student will add and subtract up to 20 by using objects or drawings with 80% accuracy. Standard CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.A.2 Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

Information KUdo KUdo Mathematics has all kinds of numbers, but there can only be one answer. Listen to your instinct and trust it. Mathematics is used all day everyday even when people do not realize it.

Information cont. Remember how to add and subtract? Word problems could be some of the hardest math problems. There are different approaches to figure out an answer to a math problem.

Information cont. Mathematics can create different word problems. There are many math problems that can become confusing, but there is only one right answer. Math can be fun once you start understanding which perspective to use for the problem. Mathematics can be challenging, but it can also help you in the long run. You will need math for your entire life.

There are five dogs and three cats. How many animals are there altogether?

If there are twenty cats and ten dogs, then how many animals would there be if two cats ran away and four dogs were sold? 18 cats and 7 dogs 6 cats and 4 dogs 18 cats and 6 dogs

There are twelve animals altogether. How many animals will there be if five were taken away?

Summary wrap up You learned how to add and subtract from a given word problem. You learned to find the difference of the cats and dogs. You learned to use objects to add and subtract from a word problem.
