SMART MOBILE TICKETING LOCAL TRAIN BOOKING SYSTEM THROUGH MOBILE APPLICATION Travel made easy

Present Scenario People stand in long queues to buy tickets and there is waste of time. There are ticket printing costs and human resources involved in disbursing the tickets. Lot of paper is required in printing those tickets

Today's problem faced for travelling in Mumbai local trains

Present Condition of Ticket Window in Mumbai

Executive Summary Objective – To simplify the present printed ticket system for Local Train, Platform Ticket and Pass system. Idea – To offer simple unified Application for mobile ticketing system. Plan – This will be the Next Google for Ticketing ◦Offer a user friendly app which gets a query from a user to buy a ticket. The user enters source and destination address and requests ticket through his mobile. ◦Once the response is given, the app will generate a ticket in form of bar code and money will be deducted from his personal account. ◦The ticket will be scanned at permit to travel machine installed at platform.

Strategy and Implementation Summary There will be 3 phases of the entire project. Phase 1: Platform Ticketing System Phase 2: Local Train Ticketing System Phase 3: Local Train Pass System Platform Ticketing :-Various scenarios for ticket purchase etc will be tested out at smaller stations. As the volume for this is much lower then the local train ticketing or passes this will act as the right platform for load and query handling test. Local Train Ticket :-Post the successful implementation of the platform ticket, the local ticketing will be implemented in less load stations and then in a phased manner in larger stations. Pass System:-This will be followed by the pass system implementation. The PDA’s with bar codes scanner will provide Validation service for the TTs to tell if the passenger has genuine ticket or not.

FEASIBILITY STUDY A Feasibility study is the study of positive possibilities of a project. It is also measure of how beneficial or practical development of information system would be to an organization. The different types of feasibility are as follows: Economic feasibility Operational feasibility Technical feasibility Legal feasibility

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY To determine whether the proposed system is technically feasible, we should take into consideration the technical issues involved behind the system. SMART TICKETING uses the web technologies, which is rampantly employed these days worldwide. The world without the web is incomprehensible today. That goes to proposed system is technically feasible. Hardware Technology: ◦Operating System:- Windows XP, Windows 7 and 8 ◦Processor:- Intel Core 2 duo, Intel i3, Intel i5,Intel i7 ◦ 3.30GHz ◦Installed Memory(RAM):- Minimum 2GB ◦System Type:- 32-bit Operating System Software Technology used: Front End:- Eclipse with Android SDK Back End:- WAMP Server, Server side scripting in PHP and MySQL database.

OPERATIONAL FEASIBILITY To determine the operational feasibility of the system we should take into consideration the awareness level of the users. This system is operational feasible since the users are familiar with the technologies and hence there is no need to gear up the personnel to use system. Also the system is very user friendly and easy to use.

Legal Feasibility This application involves copyrights, trademarks, licensing agreements and other contracts that could incur some fees, litigation costs, acknowledgments & restrictions which will b acknowleged by th government. Because the application is related to government use it is legally feasible

ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY To decide whether a project is economically feasible, we have to consider various factors as: ◦Cost benefit analysis ◦Long-term returns ◦Maintenance costs The proposed SMART TICKETING is mobile based. It requires average capabilities and access to internet, which are very basic requirements hence it doesn’t incur additional economic overheads, which renders the system economically feasible.

Distribution of mobile users

Targeting the android users in India

Business Opportunity There are over 11 million Passengers travelling in Local trains on a daily basis They spend on an average Rs. 10/ day in tickets. Total spending = 11 Million *Rs. 10 = RS. 110 Million / day = 110 x 365 days = Rs. 40,150 Million a year. With over 300 Million mobile phone users in India it’s pertinent that a majority of passengers carry a mobile phone with them. At a rough estimate of 10% of total passenger volume carrying a mobile phone spending Rs.10/ day on tickets would still be Rs *10% = Rs Million
