Achieve3000: An Introduction to the Program Nonfiction Reading in the Real World The Achieve3000 5-Step Literacy Routine Student Data: Teacher Tools Resources for Parents Achieve3000 Here at Jenkins Questions

A Growing Gap We must close the gap between where students are when they graduate, and where they need to be to enter the job market

Previous Lexile Ranges Increased Rigor Grade Band Previous Lexile Ranges New Lexile Ranges  2–3  450L–725L 450L–790L  4–5  645L–845L 770L–980L  6–8 860L–1010L 955L–1155L 9-10 960L–1115L 1080L–1305L 11–12  1070L–1220L 1215L–1355L Recent studies reveal a growing gap between the texts that students read in school and the text they are required to read in college and career. Because of this, the new Common Core State Standards call for increased rigor. That increased rigor is not just about Lexiles. It’s about holding students accountable to a new, higher level of achievement.

The 5-Step Literacy Routine Poll and Email: Prior to reading, students recognize their perspective about the topic and support their opinion with a written explanation. Article: Students read through the article, completing the reading connections activities as they read. Activity: Students demonstrate understanding of the article they have just read. Poll: Students re-evaluate their original position after gathering information from their reading of the article. Thought Question: Students compose a well-written response to the article.

The Jenkins Plan Students will complete Achieve3000 readings and activities in their social studies, science, and language arts classes. Every week, students will complete two articles in class and one article as a homework assignment. We will offer support to students that don’t have internet access at home. At school and at home, we want to celebrate success and keep students motivated to keep on progressing.
