India - Land Subcontinent – a large landmass that is part of another continent, but distinctly different.

India - Land Major Mountain Chains – Himalaya and Karakoram Form Northern Border – Eastern and Western Ghats Form Southern Border

India - Land Monsoons – Seasonal winds that bring warm, moist air from the Indian Ocean.

India - Economy The Green Revolution – effort to use modern techniques and science to increase production of food. Ex. Dams and stronger strains of: wheat, rice, pesticides, and corn.

India - Economy Jute – Plant fiber used to make: rope, burlap bags, and carpet backing. Cottage Industry – Home or village-based industry in which family members supply their own equipment to make goods.

India - Religion Hinduism – religion based on blended beliefs of several ancient Aryan tribes. Reincarnation – soul continues journey until “perfection” is reached. – Believe it is wrong to kill any animal – Cows sacred

India - Religion Brahma – Creator of World Vishnu – Preserver of Universe Shiva – Destroyer to re-create
