Presentation transcript:

Sometimes people in Naples forget of how interesting and fascinating their city is. We have a lot of history, art, buildings, castles and sometimes we forget how precious our culture is.

Why did we go to Naples? We went to a trip to Naples. It is a way to learn our culture and to discover the treasure that belongs to the past of our city. But this is not a normal trip…… it is a trip about the mysteries of Naples. In the bus it was all very boring: there were people sleeping, people taking photos and talking with each other. We were all so exciting and hungry of knowing and learning new things.

Piazza San Domenico Maggiore Piazza San Domenico Maggiore was built by Carlo I from France, 300 years ago. In this piazza we saw a lot of castles, built in the XVI century. And the most interesting and amazing thing about this Piazza: it has a legend!!!! The legend says that there was a woman called Maria who abandoned her husband being with another man. Later on she was discovered and killed in this Piazza with her secret lover. The legend also says that in the nights where there is a full moon you can see their ghosts.

Church of San Domenico It was built at the end of 1200 B.C. It is awesome because it has got gothic architecture and you can notice it by the rounded arches. The gothic art is very grey and the roof hand made with golden. Marble is produced with a lot of colours. It also has a lot of affrescos. Another type of art is the barocco art. The “marmo intarsiato” was used to give “life” to the altar with a lot of colors. In the sacristy, we can find the sarcophagi of the Aragon kings and they are full of precious and expensive objects with paintings of the dead family. The quality of the woodwork is excellent.

Cloister Outside the church there is a wonderful cloister. An important writer called Giordano Bruno was educated there and then he moved to Rome. There is another ghost in this building that is a girl called Bianca. She was extremely beautiful. She worked for a lady that was jelous of her beauty and so she buried her alive.

Piazza San Gaetano

Via Toledo Via Toledo is a very long street. The name was given by Don Pedro de Toledo. Now we are in galleria Umberto I that was built during a period called Risanamento. This is a gallery which has four galleries, with four passages connected by a big copula in the centre. Below us there is the “Salone Margherita” built between the XIX and the XX century where there are cabarets. On the first floor there are shops. On the second one there are houses that have an excellent view of the gallery.

Piazza Municipio In Piazza Municipio we could see the New Castle. The king Carlo I d’Angiò had already the Capuan Castle, but then he built the Maschio Angioino. Then the Aragons conquisted Naples and came in as a winner in 1442 and he also built his arch in the Maschio Angioino. In the castle there is a museum with a library, a meeting room and a lot of paintings.

Piazza Trieste e Trento It is a square before piazza Plebiscito. There’s a fountain in the centre called “Fontana del Carciofo”, built at the end of the XX century. Beside the square there’s the San Carlo’s theatre, built in 1737, by Charles I of the Bourbons. It is amazing and it is the most known theatre in all Europe.

Piazza Plebiscito Piazza Plebiscito is the biggest square in Naples. Before 1861 this square was just called Largo di Palazzo. There’s a royal palace that was the official residence of Charles III of the Bourbons. He decorated the palace and then the Savoya family conquisted it. Now it is a museum. In front of the palace there is the church of San Francesco di Paola which has the biggest cupola of 54 meters high. Firstly it belonged to Napoleon, but then it was conquisted by the Bourbons. On the left there’s a Quarter Palace. On the right we can see the Palazzo of the Forestiera. Behind the Quarter Palace there is a wonderful view of the amazing golf of Naples.

Santa Lucia street Santa Lucia street’s name came from the presents given to the church “Santa Lucia”. In front of the street we can see the beautiful sea and Castel Dell’Ovo.

Castel dell’Ovo Castel dell’Ovo is also called Castel Marinaro. This name was given to the castle by a strange and interesting legend. It says that Virgilious, a famous poet, who wrote Eneide, put in the castle a magic egg. If something happens to the castle and to the egg, Naples will suffer terrible consequences. In the castle there is the Room of the columns. A general called Luculliano organized a very big dinner in his house which was destroyed in the castle.

Conclusion This trip wasn’t just a moment of learning, but also a wonderful experience when we had fun. We learned a lot of things and thanks to all of the teachers, we now know how fascinating the culture of Naples can be. It’s impossible to forget: When Mr Connor frightened the actor which interpreted the “Masaniello”, as he did to us. When Prof Puopolo said that the ones who are allergic to the “uovo” cannot enter in Castel dell’Ovo All the laughs we had visiting our world of culture….

….. And don’t forget the pizza!!! The best pizza ever!!!!!!!!!!!

Selfies are always necessary for a trip!

Thank you for watching and sharing these good moments with us. We hope you enjoyed it as we did. Thank you teachers and principal and guides. See you next time
