What does that cloud mean? Danisha Wilkins

Content Area: Science Grade Level: 3 rd Summary: The purpose of this instructional PowerPoint is for students to identify major cloud types and associate them with particular weather conditions. Learning Objective: Given websites that contain facts about clouds and atmospheric conditions students will need to interpret the material within the websites to answer the questions within the power point with 100% accuracy. Content Standard: GLE Identify cloud types associated with particular atmospheric conditions. Accomplishment: The students will be able to match major cloud types with specific atmospheric conditions.

What to expect Well Hello there! We have been studying the water cycle for the past few weeks, and now you will be adding to your learning! Make sure you have your pencil and paper ready to take notes. At the end of todays lesson, you will complete a short quiz to review what you learn today. You already know that water crystals create different clouds and some of the most common types are called...  Cumulus (big, white, puffy clouds)  Stratus (large, flat clouds)  Cumulonimbus (big, grey storm clouds)  Cirrus (wispy, feathery clouds) Review more cloud facts here: clouds-formed-cloud-facts-for-kids/ clouds-formed-cloud-facts-for-kids/

That cloud means it’s going to… Clouds are weather indicators. Remember that each kind of cloud relays a different message. They can indicate fair weather, thunder, cooler weather, rain, and more. Watch the video on the cloud types and weather here: (remember to have your pencil and paper handy, pause when needed, and take notes.) Here is the correct spelling of the cloud types, take a moment and write them down now. Stratus Cirrus Cumulus Cumulonimbus

Time to name that Cloud! Now that you have watched the video, lets apply what you have learned. (click the link below to participate in another cloud activity.) Look at the diagram and click on the Stratus,Cirrus, Cumulus, Cumulonimbus clouds, listen to the information provided. (jot down additional notes that you will believe will help you remember this material) ace.swf Note: only look for and read the information on the clouds you are learning about today. We will discuss the other cloud types (altocumulus, nimbostartus, cirrostratus and altostratus) and next week.
