Our Response…..Trade Bridge Academy (TBA) The Trade Bridge Academy (TBA) is a college-wide initiative that incorporates student support and instructional strategies to improve overall student success TBA is a commitment to continuously re-engineering and improving policies, procedures, and practices that are most critical for ensuring ALL Trade-Tech students complete their educational goals with expedience and excellence.

Basic Skills 75CE: Introduction to College  Support first-time students in learning how develop a college support network.  Facilitate students in identifying career interests and making informed choices about training and education pathways so they can discuss them with counselors/depts.  Inform students of math and English options such as taking math/English refresher courses, challenge exams, preparing for and taking the placement exam, that can lessen the time it takes for them to successfully complete math/English certificate and degree requirements

Part 2: The Experience

Part 3: The Next Level What happens AFTER Orientation? Students use TABE Locator “pre-placement” test to get an idea of their strengths and non-strengths. Students use their results to inform which classes are best for them given the context of their skills and goals; options include: Free, short, intensive refresher Math and English classes (Basic Skills 2CE, 23CE and 35CE) New classes start every 5-weeks Learning Skills

Program Goals & Design Principles Utilize their TABE locator test scores to develop their personal strategy for strengthening their English and math basic skills Explain options and consequences so students can make informed choices for themselves Provide readily available and accessible opportunities for students to refresh their basic skills throughout a semester Create and nurture a college-going culture by exposing students to their post-secondary opportunities while setting high expectations and academic standards

Our Pedagogy and Shared Philosophy College is for everyone Build upon students’ existing knowledge, skills and assets All students will benefit from having a gauge of their academic readiness without penalty All students will benefit from academic preparation before they take the Placement test Set students up for success by focusing on relationship- building and helping them navigate our systems Sharing of personal stories helps students connect with others in creating a support system for their college journey
