What is Online Dating? A new form of matchmaking. Allows single, couples, and even groups to meet others online and hopefully be able to form a social, sexual, and romantic relationship. Those who sign up provide information, and usually a photograph of themselves so that others can get to know them. Started in 1995 with such websites as FriendFinder.com and Match.com Over 1000 websites today. Online Dating 31% of American adults say they know someone who has used a dating site

Men outnumber Women While it may seem like a plus for women to get on a dating site due to the number of men, it may not always be a good thing because of all the requests or s they get, making them feel over whelmed. The guys also have to compete for all the good looking girls. Because of the anonymity of profiles, many people put up false information of themselves, which can include many categories. Age Economic Status Appearance/Weight Gender People may also lie about relationship status- married men and women maybe be listed on there as single, or in the process of a divorce. Also you never know a persons history such as being in jail or fraud. Misleading information

While two people may have established a connection on the computer, meeting in real life may not yield the same results. When meeting face to face, may not have the same chemistry. Online dating is a fast process. Intimacy may not be felt between the two people, or may not even last long. Also the fact of long distance may come into play. Would someone be willing to move to another state to date someone they met online? Fantasy v.s Reality

Security: Some may say that online dating is completely safe, however there is some research to show this otherwise. Risk of meeting someone you don’t know Some pretend to be someone else Scam Anti Social Behavior Dating online takes away the spontaneity that come from dating and getting to know someone in real life.
