Units of Measurement MILES You go FAR in your CAR!!!! Measure distances that are far—from Pfafftown to Disney!

YARDS If it’s about the size of your BACKYARD… Use Yards!

If it’s as big as... YOU …use feet! She’s A bout 5 Feet Tall!

Your thumb knuckle is about an INCH!

Measure to Nearest Inch

Measure to Nearest ½ Inch Remember: You are counting by ½ inch pieces. Your answer can be a whole number, or have “1/2” in it!

Measure to Nearest ½ Inch The leaf is 3 inches long to nearest ½ inch. The peanut is 1 ½ inches long to nearest ½ inch.

12 inches = 1 foot 36 inches = 1 yard 3 feet = 1 yard 1,760 yards = 1 mile 5,280 feet = 1 mile

Converting Measurements From Feet to Inches… You are putting the feet into GROUPS OF 12… Multiply!

7 feet =inches How many groups of 12 is that? 7 x12 in= 84 in

From Inches to Feet You are dividing the feet into tiny inches so… Divide!

60 in. =Feet You are dividing 60 in. into groups of 12 in. so… 60 -/- 12= 5 ft.

Converting Feet and Inches Remember that a foot is 12 inches! = 24 in 12 in in.

2 ft. 4 inches =in. 12 in in. = 24 in + 4 in 28 in. 2 ft. 4 inches = 28 inches

62 inches = ____ feet ___in =60 so… 5 ft = 2 in. 62 in = 5ft 2 in
